Type: an event which takes place (2006 was the second year) during the months of olive oil production: November and December, in which many different oil production organizations ('frantoi', oil mills) of different areas around the city of Florence open to the public, there are oil tasting activities and the event also involves town 'mostre-mercato' (exhibition-fairs)

Note: we personally know this factory, owned by a family with a long tradition of olive oil making on the hills of Florence, close to the city. This is a genuine example of the traditional way to make pure olive oil in a country environment.

Note: this organization involves a high number of wineries located in the towns around Florence during the wine harvesting and production period and throughout the year, in different wine activities.
One of the most important oenogastronomy events in Italy is that of the Cantine Aperte ('open cellars'), promoted by Movimento Turismo del Vino (tel./fax 0759-889529; www.movimentoturismovino.it) which takes place at the end of May of every year.
